Weekly Quote #3

“It is no accident that you are reading this. I am making black marks on white paper. These marks are my thoughts. And although I do not know who you are reading this now, in some way the lines of our lives have intersected here on this paper. For the length of these few sentences, we meet here.Β

It is no accident that you are reading this. This moment has been waiting for you. I have been waiting for you.

Remember me!” (Duane Michals)

I found this gem when I was studying Photography at Southampton Solent University, and instantly fell in love with it. There was this amazing photographer I revered, telling me that in some way our lives just intersected. I don’t know if this quote will have the same effect on you as I had on me back then, but I had to share it regardless.

In a way the same is true every time we read a book. Someone wrote this text you’re reading, maybe long before now or maybe only last year, but there’s this brief connection between reader and writer where the two meet without meeting physically. It’s an idea which moved me a lot at the time, and hopefully it’ll do the same for you.

  1. Thought provoking quote- great choice πŸ™‚

    • Thank you! I think I found it in my second year of university and it struck a chord with me instantly πŸ™‚

  2. Isn’t it amazing how a pebble tossed into a pond can continue to affect the pond by its mere presence, still creating ripples long after they have seemingly ceased?

That’s my backwards way of saying that I love this quote. πŸ™‚

    • It is, and I completely understood what you mean, translation or no πŸ™‚ This quote has stayed with me for a while, I came across it in my second year of studying Photography and it instantly did something to my mind. There was something very moving about it, and I felt connected to someone I’d never even met. I already liked his work but this quote made me respect him for other reasons beyond his Photography, too.

      • I share the same feeling, but with Bruce Lee. Although, I’m glad I never got the chance to meet Bruce Lee. He probably would’ve kicked my ass.

        …a lot.
