Rise Of The Sparrows – A Prophecy

Prophecies are a part of reading books which I love. Done well they will never work out the way you expect them to, and they might even make you fear for your favourite character’s life. My book will also include prophecies, although at this point it’s too early for me to say how many. I’ve only got the one written right now, but I doubt it will stay at just the one!

As I’ve mentioned in yesterday’s post I have never written prophecy before, so this isn’t just the first draft for Rise of the Sparrows, but it’s also my first ever draft for any prophecy! Quite exciting, when you think about it!

So, here is my first – and all-important! – prophecy, Rise of the Sparrows:

“‘The night the Blue Blood flows freely

the Sparrows will rise.

Find the Sparrow who sees ahead

and it will lead you to victory.

Find the fox,

and it will betray you before the end.

Do not accept the Ar’Zac,

for it will only lead you to ruin.’

Rachael watched Cale carefully, waiting for the rest when she realised that this was all they had.

“Is that it?” Cale nodded. “I don’t understand, what does this mean? What’s an Ar’Zac?” She felt her heart sink. Why did prophecy have to be so cryptic?

“We don’t know. But that’s not the important part! Look here, where it says about the Fox? I think the Fox is more important than whatever this Ar’Zac is. And you are ‘the Sparrow who sees ahead’, there’s no denying that!”

Suddenly Rachael wished she was back on the streets of Blackrock, avoided by everyone. Life as a homeless orphan had not been great, but it had been easier without prophecies and magic and Sparrows. And this Ar’Zac.

She sighed, sinking back into her chair for comfort. “So what do we do?”

“We were hoping you would know.” “

Did I just include all that? Oh well 😉

Now, last week I said that I’d have news regarding the title of my book today. Even though this still isn’t definite, I really like Rise of the Sparrows as a title and it’s very likely that I’ll stick with it. It refers to the all-important prophecy which in turn refers to the whole book, so it’s a very fitting title!

I’m relieved (really relieved) that I’ve got this draft out of the way, and will focus on the rest of the book again next week 🙂

Until then, have a wonderful weekend!
