Progress Update – Map and Cover Design News!

First, let me tell ya I do not take well to this draft proofing period! Waiting a full month before starting the edit is hard, people!

Fortunately I’ve still got loads to do before the 16/11 to keep me distracted. This week I’ve been in touch with several cover designers as well as cartographers (I’ve also had a first look at the cost of editing – my head is still swimming with the figures but it’ll have to deal with it) and will be able to give you some definite answers on both next week. For now, just suffice it to say that I’m leaning quite strongly towards one cartographer and that I’ll have my cover design covered (hehe..) very soon as well πŸ™‚

I’ve also drawn up a sketch of the country map this week. While the entire continent, never mind the whole world, won’t matter too much for Book One, the country of Rifarne will so I’ve drawn a map for it from my rather terrible sketches I’ve made on tiny pieces of paper. So here it is – a first glance at the country where Book One takes place! (in glorious A3!)

Map of Rifarne Draft 1
How the hell do you draw trees??

Never mind the space above the Mountains. We’ll get to that πŸ˜‰

Keep an eye on my facebook page and/or my twitter for news on the cover design and the cartographer – I expect I’ll have some before next week Friday πŸ™‚

Now, if you’ll excuse me I’ve got another tea to drink.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

  1. Good luck with your hunt for cartographers and designers! You’ll have enough to keep you busy for a month I’m sure… perhaps, start planning or drafting book two hehe πŸ˜‰

    • That had crossed my mind, hehe πŸ˜‰ I do have some ideas for book two thanks to my characters’ openness in book one, so that will probably happen sooner or later ^^
And thank you, I have picked a cartographer and am just waiting to hear back from a cover designer πŸ™‚ My theme seems to be animals.. News to follow on my twitter and facebook soon, I’m sure πŸ™‚

  2. Ooh cool!! I like the map & look forward to seeing a cartographer’s work on it. As for trees, I’d draw pine trees- pyramid/ arrow up with a stick beneath πŸ˜‰ simple but you get the gist. Nice work on getting to this stage without running outta steam.

    • Thank you, I’m really excited to see what they’ll do with it, too πŸ™‚ (I might have the first draft as early as this weekend!)
Fortunately just describing where all the forests are was good enough πŸ˜›
Thank you, it’s starting to sink in that I’m really doing this and it’s very exciting πŸ™‚
