Progress Update – The First Word Count of Camp NaNo!

It’s been a while, but weekly word counts are back!

Today is the first day of Camp NaNo, and as expected Book 2 of Relics of Ar’Zac is going much better than Immortals (temp. title). I forced out 625 words on the latter, and with the 841 words I’ve written previously it now stands at 1466 words (if you count what I’ve written before). Add to that the 1954 words I’ve written on Book 2 just now, it brings the weekly word count to 3420!

Which isn’t a lot for one week, I know. But I did spend the rest of this week preparing for NaNo, so all things considered I don’t think it’s too shabby 😉 NaNo is now in full swing for me, and I’ll be able to include excerpts again from next week. Most of them will be from Immortals (temp. title) since Rise of the Sparrows isn’t out yet, and I don’t want to spoil anything.

Best of luck to everyone who is participating this month! May the inspiration flow and the words come freely!

Now, let me quickly discuss what I didn’t last week, and then I’ll have to grab another tea. I have a feeling I won’t make it through this month without at least two cups every morning.

I’m planning a few changes for Cookie Break, so if this site changes a little here and there over the next few weeks don’t let it confuse you. The most exciting change I’m introducing are regular guest posts, starting next this month with Faye Kirwin from Writerology, who has agreed to write a post on why psychology matters in writing! In May we’ll learn more about what a cartographer does from an expert, but more on that closer to the time 😉 Guest posts will be scheduled for the last Tuesday of every month, so look out for them!

It’s hard to write/take notes when there’s a cat on your stomach!

The final stages of Rise of the Sparrows are going well. I’ve created my Amazon KDP account and the professional edit has begun, and I’m very much on track for the release on 23rd May! (next month!!!) Mark it in your calendars, you beautiful people!

And that’s pretty much it. Wouldn’t you agree that this alone wouldn’t have made for a very worthwhile update last Friday? All I’ve done is prepare for NaNo by trying to get used to Scrivener and by trying to relax a little before the madness starts. I failed at the latter, but I do like Scrivener! Here’s hoping I’ll still like it by the end of April.

Time for another tea!

And that’s it from me for this week! A wonderful weekend to you all, and happy writing/reading!

Are you taking part in NaNo this month? What will you be working on, and what are your goals? Take a breather, grab a cookie, and let’s chat!

  1. I’ll be taking advantage of Camp Nano this year to write a second draft of the novel I worked on last November for NaNoWriMo. I’ve made changes to the story since finishing the first draft, so I’m slowly getting a better sense of the story and each character’s arc. No telling how long it’ll take to get to a more-or-less-final draft. Best of hopes for you and all participating — and all the writers out there who keep at it. Have a great weekend. 🙂

    • That’s how a lot of people seem to be working it during April NaNo! What do you aim for when you use the time to edit? I’m used to people setting word counts, but you can’t do that as easily when you edit.

All the best for you! Don’t rush it, the edit takes as long as it takes!

A great weekend to you, too! 🙂

  2. Good luck and I look forward to seeing the published Rise of the Sparrows. Good for you!

    • Thank you, I really do, too. My cover designer hasn’t been very well lately so I haven’t seen the cover yet and am dying to see what it’ll look like!

  3. Good luck with NaNo and well done so far, keep it up! Love your mug and tea is always great, no matter if one cup or five!

    • Thank you, I’m really enjoying it despite being ridiculously behind 🙂
That’s right, you can’t go wrong with tea! The more the better 😉

Get a tea and a cookie, and let's chat!
