Let NaNo 2016 Begin! (and may the odds be ever in your favour…)

Happy first day of the madness, everyone! Are you prepared? Are you ready? This is my first year doing NaNo, and I’m beyond excited for it! (something that won’t survive the first week, I’m sure)

Notebook? Check. Tea bags? Check. Best cookies ever? Check. Kitty pen? Check. BRING IT ON, NANO!

Best of luck to everyone taking part this year! Make another tea. Soldier on. Persevere. You’ve got this!

And don’t forget to reward yourself for hitting those word counts! 50K is a massive goal, and you’ve earned something nice to celebrate your achievements. What are you going to do to stay motivated? This is my reward plan:

An ESO wolf mount, because look at it. It’s adorable. Why ride a horse when you can ride a f*cking wolf? It’s majestic!

I devoured the first book, and Book 2 has been out since Halloween so this should see me to the 30K mark!

***50K – THE GRAND PRICE!***

Need I say more? I loved Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, and am not ready to leave Bardugo’s world just yet. If this doesn’t see me all the way to the end, nothing will. Besides the promise of unlimited cake, perhaps. Would anyone like to promise me unlimited cake if I get to 50K? No? Fair enough πŸ™

Throughout November I’ll be sharing info about my current WIP, and I’m really excited to finally share those bits with you! I feel very strongly about this story, the characters and the world, and am looking forward to revealing a little more πŸ™‚

Happy writing, everyone! Don’t let the madness overtake you! (or do – whichever helps your writing) Nervous? Scared? Feeling the insanity already? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Add me on the website (SarinaLanger), and we can cheer each other on πŸ™‚

  1. I’m entering Nano too! I signed up just yesterday, but I’m not sure about actually doing it! Good luck!

  2. Good luck with NaNo 2016- you’ll smash it, I’m sure!

      • Wow! If you do, then I better find a corker of a ‘congrats’ GIF!! πŸ˜‰

        • It’s not going to happen, haha, but if by some miracle it does I’ll find an additional reward πŸ˜›

  3. Yeah, ’cause we have the chance to write 10K every single day. πŸ˜›

My studious prep in October means I have already cracked 12K, though! And I am immensely happy about that! My hard work is starting to pay off!!

Now I just need to retain my sanity. πŸ˜›

    • I’m pretty sure that what you’ve written before November doesn’t count towards NaNo πŸ™‚ The whole point is that you write 50K in November, not some before and most during πŸ™‚

      • Oh, bleck!!!! The website made it sound (to me at least) like tallying your total word count on your WIP to start with – then continuing to count day by day – %$#@&* ! Well, I did write more than 13,000 words in October, which is awesome! Today it’s been only 126, but hey, that’s cool, too. πŸ™‚ It’s a start!

      • I wouldn’t have thought that anything before November counts since you could otherwise write as much as you want before NaNoWriMo, and only finish it off in November. If you write 35,000 words in October and then only add 15,000 in November you can’t call it winning NaNo anymore! Unless I’m understanding it wrong? To me the point is that you write the words in November, not half before since that would take a considerable amount of work off you!

  4. It does make sense – and I had a really hard time understanding the website (how to use it, upload things, send messages to people, etc.), so the way building the profile, etc. was set up, it was really puzzling to me. I was always aiming for 50,000 words by Nov. 30th, anyway – as I indeed thought that was the goal – but the way the dashboard is displayed and the word count tallys made it look different than that. And I thought, “Hey, do I have to put in the amount of words I’ve already done on this piece?” (if I already had). I wasn’t expecting it to count towards my total, so when I thought it did, I got confused, and then excited, and then confused again.

It’s why I never participate in things like this. :/

    • Oh don’t worry about it! For all I know I could be the one getting it wrong, but it just makes more sense to me that way. I do agree that the website is a bit confusing. I couldn’t figure out how to add people until someone added me and I figured that it was evidently possible somehow! πŸ™‚ Live and learn! ^-^ (if you’ll excuse that cheesy clichΓ©)

  5. So how did the first day go for you?
Better than I expected for me. Nearly hit 4000 words, almost a recor for me πŸ™‚

Am I ready? I dont’ think I am, but I’ll do it anyway. I’m actually enjoying it, messy as it is.
    Good luck!

    • Quite well! So far so good – it reckons I’m going to finish on the 17th (although, that date has already moved back two days, so it’s slowly losing faith in me). Well done writing 4000 words already! You’re on fire!! πŸ™‚

Me too, the insane, masochistic part of me enjoys NaNo very much. Also editing. Must be a writer thing πŸ™‚

      Good luck to you, too!

  6. Considering how amazingly well you’re doing so far, I have no doubt that first reward is coming soon. I had meant to reward myself with a splurge, but then decided pre-motivation was in order and kind of over bought my budget ;P I still need to work on my adulting…
But I have another planned reward… one that’s even better than buying new books…
Best of luck with the rest of NaNo, Sarina! You can do it! <3

    • It should be ready for collection on Tuesday, hopefully πŸ˜€
Haha, I understand. New books are just too tempting! πŸ˜‰ I’m intrigued about your reward that’s better than new books. You’ll have to fill me in some time πŸ™‚
Best of luck to you, too, Faith! Rock it as I know you can! <3

      • I announced in my post on Friday, but my reward will be publishing ElΓ©onore! <3

  7. Good luck! The rewards are a fantastic idea! and it’ll be totally deserved! Don’t forget rewards even if everything does not go as planned! πŸ™‚

    • I’ll have to keep that in mind – although, rewards even when I’m not hitting my goals feels like cheating! πŸ˜›
