What I’m currently reading

WWW Wednesday 9th May 2018 | Current Read: The Obelisk Gate by N. K. Jemisin

The Obelisk Gate

I loved The Fifth Season so much I went straight to the sequel <3 I’ve only just started this so it’s early days, but it’s so good.

Blurb:

The season of endings grows darker as civilization fades into the long cold night. Alabaster Tenring – madman, world-crusher, savior – has returned with a mission: to train his successor, Essun, and thus seal the fate of the Stillness forever.

It continues with a lost daughter, found by the enemy.

It continues with the obelisks, and an ancient mystery converging on answers at last.

The Stillness is the wall which stands against the flow of tradition, the spark of hope long buried under the thickening ashfall. And it will not be broken.

WWW Wednesday 9th May 2018 | Current Read: Me Life Story by Scarlett Moffatt

Me Life Story: Sofa, So Good!

I don’t usually read biographies, but I love Scarlett and my SO got me this as an unexpected gift, so I dove right in. I adore this girl so much, and even more so now for learning more about her.

Blurb:

One girl’s meteoric rise from sofa to TV stardom! From beloved Gogglebox breakout star, to winner of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, achieving her dream of presenting with Ant and Dec on Saturday Night Takeaway and filling Davina’s shoes in the new series of Streetmate, Scarlett is quickly fast-tracking to national treasure status. In what will quite surely be the funniest book of the year, laugh along with Scarlett as she describes her journey from ballroom dancing diva, to adventures with her survivalist Dad, working at ASDA and life as a student. But along with the highs there have been tough times, including bullying during her teenage years. With her typical tenacity and trademark wit, Scarlett pulls through it all. This is our favorite Northerner as we have never heard her before, telling it like it is on EVERYTHING she’s experienced so far. Warm, funny and honest, this is the amazing story that resulted in Scarlett becoming our favorite TV star: sofa, so good!

What I recently finished reading

WWW Wednesday 9th May 2018 | Previous Read: The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin

The Fifth Season

My thoughts after the half-page prologue thing: LOVE

My thoughts after the first page: WELCOME TO MY FOREVER SHELF

It really was that quick <3 I’m so glad I bought the trilogy together, saved me having to order books 2 & 3 now 😛

Blurb:

THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD ENDS. AGAIN.

Three terrible things happen in a single day.

Essun, masquerading as an ordinary schoolteacher in a quiet small town, comes home to find that her husband has brutally murdered their son and kidnapped their daughter. Mighty Sanze, the empire whose innovations have been civilization’s bedrock for a thousand years, collapses as its greatest city is destroyed by a madman’s vengeance. And worst of all, across the heartland of the world’s sole continent, a great red rift has been been torn which spews ash enough to darken the sky for years. Or centuries.

But this is the Stillness, a land long familiar with struggle, and where orogenes — those who wield the power of the earth as a weapon — are feared far more than the long cold night. Essun has remembered herself, and she will have her daughter back.

She does not care if the world falls apart around her. Essun will break it herself, if she must, to save her daughter.

What I think I’ll read next

WWW Wednesday 9th May 2018 | Previous Read: The Stone Sky by N. K. Jemisin

The Stone Sky

Not reading the blurbs while I copied and pasted them for this post was a challenge, friends. I basically copied them singing LALALALALA in my head.

It’s been a while since I read every book in a trilogy one after the other, but setting this series aside seems harder so on I read <3

Blurb:

THIS IS THE WAY THE WORLD ENDS… FOR THE LAST TIME.

The Moon will soon return. Whether this heralds the destruction of humankind or something worse will depend on two women.

Essun has inherited the power of Alabaster Tenring. With it, she hopes to find her daughter Nassun and forge a world in which every orogene child can grow up safe.

For Nassun, her mother’s mastery of the Obelisk Gate comes too late. She has seen the evil of the world, and accepted what her mother will not admit: that sometimes what is corrupt cannot be cleansed, only destroyed.
